Financials & Accountability
Oregon Prison Project is a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, EIN 45-2798340, incorporated in Oregon and recognized by the IRS in 2024. We file an annual Form 990 with the IRS. Donations are tax-deductible to the extent allowed by law.
We are entirely volunteer-run. Every class we teach is delivered by trained volunteers. The figures below are what it takes to put one 48-week Nonviolent Communication class inside an Oregon prison for a year.
What one class costs for a year: approximately $9,000
• Program materials: $650
• Volunteer training and professional development: $1,800
• Program coordination and administration: $2,000
• Insurance: $810
• Legal and accounting: $1,000
• Website and outreach: $700
• Travel to facilities: $600
Where we are going
Before the pandemic we taught in five Oregon prisons and one post-release program, reaching hundreds of participants a year. Today we are back in two of those five facilities. Our goal is to be back in four of the five by the end of 2027.
