Nonviolent Communication Volunteer Teacher Training

OPP offers exceptional support for those wanting to share Nonviolent Communication in their communities through our Nonviolent Communication Volunteer Teacher Training:

  • Supervision from a Center for Nonviolent Communication Certified Trainer

  • Custom-designed, proven Nonviolent Communication teacher curriculum

  • Teaching experience for up to 48 weeks per year, which fulfills Center for Nonviolent Communication Certification requirements

All prospective Nonviolent Communication Volunteer Teacher Training participants are interviewed to explore their goals and determine the best fit within our program. Participation begins with an observation period to help you understand the prison environment and the expectations of volunteering with our programs. Before or during this period we ask Volunteers to participate in Nonviolent Communication classes on the outside. Once this period is over, Volunteers who go on to teach, will receive continued support through our Volunteer Teacher Training, geared specifically toward teaching in Oregon prisons. They then may go on to staff the Incarcerated and Post-release Nonviolent Communication Education in one of two ways:

  • Nonviolent Communication Certified Trainers can become Volunteer Trainers at our facilities

  • Skilled Nonviolent Communication practitioners who are not certified can volunteer as to support with OPP admin and communication, or become facilitators if they are actively engaged in Nonviolent Communication study or leadership outside OPP

Please note: Our Nonviolent Communication Volunteer Teacher Training program is focused on the teaching of Nonviolent Communication, not learning the framework. If you are new to Nonviolent Communication, explore Rose City Nonviolent Communication's Teacher Training Program
