Volunteer roles include: administrative support — fundraising, donor management, social media, marketing, and volunteer/event coordination — as well as in-classroom roles, where you can learn the curriculum and potentially help teach. If you have other ideas or skills you’d like to contribute, we’d love to hear them.

What to expect if you volunteer in a classroom: every classroom volunteer completes the Oregon Department of Corrections volunteer application, background check, and orientation before entering a facility. Classes meet once a week for two hours, and we ask classroom volunteers to commit to a full term (12 weeks at Oregon State Penitentiary; 24 weeks at Coffee Creek) and to begin with an observation period alongside an experienced facilitator. Before or during that period we ask you to take Nonviolent Communication classes on the outside. Administrative and outreach roles need no clearance and can be done remotely.
